In recent information on disasters, one cannot distinguish natural from historical facts. They also recall wars, pillages, guerrillas, NATO… The forces of nature are inextricably entwined with those of history.
Natural disasters are more common in poor regions (Mike Davis) and conflicts persist on seismic faults (with the exception of Africa).
What happens to the images of natural disasters in this entanglement of nature and history? They are no longer characterized by the event to which they are related, “Tamils Tigers and Tsunami 2” explores how photographs exist in such situations.
This proposal forms part of a wider project entitled “Newsletter”. It allows one to explore how emerging images exist while “the nature of suggestion, or hypnotism, of the present connection” to the media dissolves (Guatarri). www.newsletterhost.org
