Outwardly from Earth’s Centre
The cinematic works of Rosa Barba capture often capture the moment just before something is about to happen or describe an intermediate condition. The film Outwardly from Earth’s Centre is the story of an imaginary community living on an unstable piece of land in danger to disappear. This situation requires the population's collective initiative in order to secure the individual's survival and the society to remain. The narrative has a certain reality background since Sandön, the island where this work was filed, moves approximately one metre per year. The fictitious report of experts strengthens the surrealistic atmosphere which in a lingering shifts the tone of the film, from what perhaps at first is thought be a quiet and beautiful documentary, to a more abstract and somewhat absurd account of people's struggle and vulnerability.
