Nobre explores the possibilities of painting as a means of representation, but also as an opportunity to escape the linear chronological development of life. His figures communicate in an indeterminate time – between different periods and aesthetic categories. He uses souvenirs and mementoes from all over the world to create fantasy landscapes in which memories of all the different places he has visited are intermingled. The private act of painting is tied to the process of personal and collective memory. It is a process which can evolve in any place, on any surface and with any subject – blending the private and public, nature and history. His works are like cinematic journeys or geographical narratives. He stands before empty space and seeks out all possible applications of form and shape, material and means of expression – the final result reminding each of us of something almost imperceptible, not yet fully crystallized in our memories.
