The installation by Richard Whitlock in the antechamber of the Agora Baths (Bazaar Hamam, late 15th century) entails the displacement (heterotopia) of the dome of the chamber by reflection in the liquid floor, which of course never existed, though it could occur under certain conditions. The reflected dome is betrayed by the silent undulation of its surface caused by a drop falling, which according to Heracleitus could flow on for ever. Except that it is arrested by the artist, immobilised and imprinted. Meanwhile the dome, above as ever, continues to move in the steamy vapours and the fluctuations of the light coming into the room.
The duration of the exhibition, from May 21st to September 30th 2007, is long enough for the illusion of reflection to become incorporated into the historical building.
