Infantry
The landscape is new, unknown. Life takes on a different rhythm and time is magnified. The one breed of the human species disappears from your life as if by magic. Serres Prefecture, without characteristics; here a necessary transformation takes place, a transformation of principles and values. Another world; what was until now considered to be important no longer has any value, and whatever went by unnoticed – simple everyday habits and mechanical actions – becomes dominant.
The person standing next to me is just as lost, blank and floating in our new environment. You belong elsewhere, but are functioning here. Above all the image changes: colours, textures, shapes, figures… Everything is there, but at the same time everything is missing. The photograph is summoned up to record, perhaps to objectify, to sterilise, but above all to connect that which I know with that which I fear. I do not wish to put anybody on a pedestal, to accuse others or to change anything. What is commonplace is experienced more intensely than the dramatic, and stillness is painfully worse than the end. And then there is something to share.
