| Em Kei Em Kei reproduces familiar forms of local and international kitsch and pop culture, by transmuting and presenting them at installations, constructions and public events. Through a thriller type landscape-scene, The creation of beast collage presents the moment of creation of a beast. Inspired by Michelangelo’s Creation of Adam, where God extends His hand and gives life to the first Man on Earth, the roles and illustration are distorted by the artist and a woman’s hand (the hand of a vampire or a witch?) creates a beast (a werewolf perhaps). The irony and transposition of stereotypes are familiar characteristics of Em Kei’s work, and this specific work of art is not an exception. Male God is transformed into a woman who now creates a beast. The concept of creation complements the act while the beast that is born symbolises the untouchable, marginal person, the outsider.
