Rania Bellou

The constructed room is for me a space with distances and
directions involved, and as long as my body as a viewer and
creator threads run out towards it, since there would be no
space if I had no body. By considering the body in movement,
in our situation through the video images, we can see
better how it inhabits space and time.
Many representations which “occlude” the understanding of
space come from semiology, notably the thesis according
to which social space results in a simple marking on imprinting
of natural space, leaving traces.
To live a space could be an action of placing yourself for
a moment in an imaginary situation, to find satisfaction in
changing one’s “setting”. But it’s really difficult to enter into
a fictitious situation without converting it into a real one.
Controlled by these ideas, I am trying to create a space
which encloses -and does not encircles- spectators in the
showroom, it makes them feel that they are merging into
their senses, in an experiment of interaction between them
and the artwork, between reality and illusion, between real
and fictitious.
Interactivity reopens a dialogue, recognizing that a process
of creation or of information is not complete without the
assumption of responsibility on the part of the user, who is
no longer just a spectator but a producer of an experience.
A new sense of responsibility for the artist who no longer
designs a work of art but elicits behaviors, gestures, reactions
which will expand the creative side of the technology
and make us see things from a new point of view.
